Eastbourne

On this leg of our journey, we've taken up residence in Hampden Park, a suburb of Eastbourne nestled below the hills and forest of South Downs. A fox or two-- gah, the most majestic little creatures-- have appeared on our not-so-exciting juants to the shops and bakery. And, we can hear evidence of the nearby sea as the sound of seagulls rings all day long.

As we inch our way across the southeast British coastline, we continue to underestimate it's magic. A three-minute train ride took us to the coast today. Walk through the main town square, the trendy cafes (stop for the olive oil apple cake at Nelson Co.), and go past the tourist-centric beach cafes and fairy light lined boardwalk, and the English Channel stretches before you. On a day like today, it transforms from a cool blue to green with appearances of seaweed coming up from the seafloor. The salty breeze makes my hair curl in more defined ringlets, and I love that it makes me feel welcome and cosy.

Come for the sea, stay for the charm of heritage Victorian buildings-- this seems to be the theme of coastal English towns. The edge of Eastbourne, just in the distance, is home to the incredible cliffs of the Seven Sisters. Adventure time on those chalky hills will come soon and will be met with so much anticipation.
